Dental Insurance

Dental Insurance

SDPEBA offers two dental plans, an HMO and a PPO plan. We think both plans are excellent, but they offer different levels of coverage and rates. The main difference between a PPO and HMO plan is the way you seek care. With an HMO plan, you pick/are assigned a dentist who is the only person you can see for full coverage (you are able to change the dentist once a month). The PPO plan offers more flexibility and allows you to choose from any in-network dentist.

The HMO plan has a lower monthly premium but the PPO plan has lower copays/coinsurance making paying for care more affordable. Additionally, the PPO has a maximum annual benefit, meaning it only covers you for up to $2,250 a year.

MetLife HMO

MetLife’s Dental HMO keeps costs low with fixed copays and requires choosing an in‑network dentist. You can switch monthly, and all pricing is laid out in a clear schedule of benefits.

MetLife’s Dental PPO gives you flexibility to see any dentist, with lower costs in network. It uses coinsurance and includes annual and orthodontic maximums that help manage your total coverage.
